Background World is an AI game lab finding new ways to play that are only possible with AI, and selling them the way people already pay for AI.

Mob Machine is live. Raising a US$2.25M priced seed to hit six measured targets in 18 months.

Purpose

Find the games that couldn’t exist before AI.

Mission

Define the language of play for the AI era.

Vision

Games that think, react and remember you.

Every platform
shift brings
new play.

The Wii remote turned movement into play and put the Wii in more than 100 million homes (Nintendo); Kyle created EA Playground for it.
Free-to-play changed how we pay.

AI is the next one.

AI can now generate play good enough to sell, and people already pay for AI. Turning it into a game still takes game expertise. Big studios are built for the old way of making games, and most AI-made games remake old kinds of play.

LiveFirst experiment

Mob Machine

Live since October 2026 at mobmachine.games. AI agents build free games in public, and players vote, and pay, to decide what they build next. Other studios could license those agents, but that is in none of our cases.

2 daysfor Kyle, alone with AI agents, to build its first playable game.

Election

School board to national office. AI voters argue back, and today’s real polls become tomorrow’s crisis. Early Access April 2027.

An Election mockup: a campaign map and polling

Huge fandoms, few games.

Elections, true crime and history have huge audiences and few games made for them, because a good one needs people who answer back. AI can now play those people. We start where those fans already are.

Tested on players before we build.

Every concept goes on the web before it gets a team, the way King tested games on King.com before Candy Crush.

01 A crowd that exists

A subject people already follow every day, and games about it that already sell: Suzerain, Democracy 4, fantasy sports.

02 A page before a build

A concept page, shared the same way for every concept. We count who joins the waitlist.

03 Players vote

Mob Machine players and the waitlist vote on what gets built next.

04 A playable in days

Real players on the web. Do they come back, and do they share?

Running now: five concepts, Election included. Results in December 2026, including the ones that lose. From November, a new game drops every two weeks.

Four things win in AI-era games.

Anyone can copy a game. These four are hard to copy.

Expertise

Game makers who can tell which AI-made play is fun.

Community

Players stay for the people and what they made together.

IP

Worlds we own: Election, Time Bandits, Bloodhounds. Partner IP later.

Live-gen play

Generated live as you play, so it reacts to you and never runs out.

The more people play, the more there is to play.

Make it once, play it many times.

  1. 01 AskNewA player asks for something new.
  2. 02 Make once1×AI builds it. This is the costly step.
  3. 03 Replay¢Everyone after plays it for cents.
  4. 04 RecommendTopThe best get played most, so most play is replay.

More players make more worlds, and every replay earns more than it costs. The price of AI also falls every year (a16z, Epoch AI). We expect 2 to 3x a year; our cash plan assumes about 1.7x.

Free every day.
Pay to do more.

Play, make, earn.

  1. Free A few plays a day.
  2. Basic, US$7.99 a month Play everything, like Election, with live runs and seasons.
  3. Pro, US$19.99 a month Make your own worlds, like a Time Bandits era.
  4. Max, US$49.99 a month Remix any game and earn.

Players find us through the arcade, Mob Machine, Steam and the worlds they share.

A game lab, not a studio.

We plan for most bets to fail. Fast tests on real players find the ones that work.

  1. ~12Prototypes
One every two months. Most stop here.
  2. 3–4Web tests
Real players on the web first, like King.
  3. 2Early Access
Election, Apr 2027. Time Bandits, June 2028, if it passes its cost test.
  4. HitGets a team
Spins out as a series, a partnership or an IP sale.

Over 24 months. A bet that misses its test sends its budget back to the lab.
